There is a thing about comparing videos on UA-cam on top tier pianos. The thing is - instruments are almost always not perfectly tuned and voiced. In that case comparison becomes a bit pointless, because a lot of character of the instruments just cannot be heard. If you search "piano voicing before/after", you may find a lot of videos about that topic and listen to the difference.

Sounds like it should have been written for the viola with how good this is. This is what I listen to when I need motivation to improve.

Kawai are producing other company brand piano(OEM). For example Steinway(Boston Brand),DIAPASON Brand and so on. So,Kawai is familiar with other companies' designs. Shigeru Kawai designed with advanced scientific analysis. The cast frame is very similar to the Steinway, but the soundboard design is very different.(It's the thickest among the major piano manufacturers.) This forms the unique sound of Shigeru Kawai.

Ramp pump drive pipe is best rigid over flexible.

Nice video and presentation. I wanted to better understand your pump operation. Am I right that the waste valve will hold in a closed state by the feed pressure indefinitely if we manually pull up the valve stem to a closed state? I can see some washers there to preload it towards open state. Your advice ?

Finally a really objective review! Mic'd the same in the same room with the same piece(s). Seemless. And great detective work comparing the construction both pianos and in the fact that the Steinway patent has expired. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, though I am sure if some good Steinway is used to everyone copying their design. The things that might be "different" are the woods used, age of the woods, crown of the soundboard, action, possibly coatings/windings on the strings. It would be interesting to hear from an RPT who regulated both pianos what they thought? And great compositions, by the way! Love them!

Thank you for sharing this wonderful valve. I also view other channel on ram pump and have gathered mixed information on waste valve hope you can enlighten us addressing this question. Have you noticed of two main streams of ram pump, Normally open versus normally shut, assuming fed by 1-2 meters of water head? I was told that the normally shut type requires manually prime until the distribution circuit has build up water volume to sustain a back pressure otherwise it will not cycle itself. Is your waste valve of normally open type and closed only by dynamic pressure? Your advice?

The Kawai is heavier becuase it has steel inside of the woo d to prevent alot of warping

Thank you for all the work that you put into this. I just built a ram pump and modeled my waste gate valve off of your design. I will be pushing 250 ft up hill with 100 ft drop on the head pipe. I think the best thing about this valve is the tuneability. I can adjust and tune it to maximize performance for the flow and pressure that I have at my source. I think this will work great! wish me luck....

Shigeru Kawai SK-EX is priced substantially lower than Steinway's D274 but around the same prie as equally respected Boesendorfer 275 and Bluther Model 1. Which makes me wonder why only Steinway can get away in price class all its own ! I am taking exception for Boesendorfer Imperial which is in the size-class all its own.

Wrong way to compare. It's best to use the same song, the same way of playing the piano so you can convince the audience with your conclusion.

Actually the swing valve made of stainless steel is also good, if you have 1" drive pipe youcan use 1 1/2 to 2" swing check valve, just positioned the waste balve to 90 or 270 degrees and tilt down easy easy until reaching the desired cycle.

Congratulations on saving a beautiful work of art! I had a similar project with a 1901 6ft Malmsjo and today it is our piano tuner´s favorite grand :) ....

Steinway pumps these things out, which is telling of the fact that they use kiln dried wood. Shigerus take 15 years to make because the fact that the wood is naturally dried. on top of that, steinways are inconsistent due to not being selective of wood for density.
